Here the 3 books I've read since my last book review, and I'm excited to share these with you - it was a good trio.
Big Brother by Lionel Shriver
I've read two other books by Lionel Shriver, Double Fault and The Post-Birthday World, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. She has a way of pushing the boundaries and shocking you with her often unlikeable characters, all the while drawing you into the story and prompting you to think of your own moral compass. Big Brother deals with the all too common issues of obesity, human weakness and our ability to make excuses for any situation, and it's far from being a superficial story about an overweight man. Well worth a read.
Come Away With Me by Sara McDonald
This was a completely random pick in Oxfam books, one of those spur of the moment charity shop finds that was a result of a quick glance at the blurb. It is well written but not spectacularly so - but it does deal with the fragile state of grief and complicated relationships with grace and eloquence. It definitely kept me interested until the very end, and I would be curious to see what else she has written.
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
I fell flat on my face in love with this book. It's a thoughtful, sensitive and charming story, narrated by a loveable man with Asperger's. It is the perfect reminder to all of us that life and love are not defined or destined by logic, but also that we are all, in some way or another, weird and strange to others. And those differences between us are what makes friendships and relationships work, because we so often get from each other what we can't from ourselves. Simply put, I was won over by this book and I'll be recommending it left right and centre.
