phat phuc noodle bar

16 February 2015

Along with the questionable name (which means "Happy Budda" in Vietnamese), this is a hole-in-the-wall that you wouldn't expect to find in the heart of Chelsea. Tucked away down a few steps just off King's Road, Phat Phuc is basically a street food stand, where you pay for your food at the counter and sit yourself down in the tent area (with heating, thank goodness).

There is nothing I crave more than a steaming bowl of noodles during the winter months. Although the pho looked appetising, my sister and I both went for the Laksa with prawns, as well as fresh vegetable & tofu Vietnamese rolls and duck wraps to share.

Now, don't go underestimating this unassuming noodle bar, because the food is really quite good. Nothing fancy, but very fresh, delicious and reasonably priced - everything you want in a quick, weekday lunch. I could easily eat this kind of food every single day! If I lived or worked nearby, I would definitely be guilty of running to them for a convenient takeaway (which they offer).

Just as I feel very at home eating out with fellow bloggers, my sister keeps me company with her shutterbug ways <- she takes some great food pics! I do admit, we look like a slightly odd pair with our similar cameras and crouching for angles (mine is the Canon EOS M, hers is the Olympus Pen), but it's not weird if we're weird together.

I love discovering places like these - I am absolutely going back there in a few months when we can eat outside, properly al fresco, and then have a wander down King's Road for some dreamy window shopping. Is it Spring yet?
