sake no hana

05 December 2014

My nearest and dearest know me inside out, as well as being wonderfully generous and kind. My four closest girlfriends have spoilt me for my birthday/Christmas - S gave me Cards Against Humanity (this is one that's been on my wishlist!), E (not husband E, girlfriend E) gave me a set of beautiful Scandinavian glasses for cocktails and other fancy drinks from Sweden (I need to master my cocktail-making skills), my sister made me the most amazing advent calendar ever, and  C treated me to an amazing lunch at Sake No Hana, which we're talking about today.

It's a restaurant that I've wanted to try for so long, but being pretty pricey it wasn't somewhere I could just pop into. So I was beyond excited that C had found a great lunch deal that included 4 courses plus prosecco - yes please!

The interior is very modern and clean, with Japanese touches here and there. Definitely feels like a premium place.

We started with some miso soup, and shared the salmon and tempura, followed by sushi and a simply beautiful dessert that was served with a Happy Birthday!

A lot of restaurants these days claim to offer Japanese food, but most of the time it's really not Japanese food, at all. Don't get me wrong, I love fusion cuisine and pan-asian menus, but to me it's completely separate from authentic, Japanese cooking. Sake No Hana is somewhere that lacks the fusion flair, in a good way - I still wouldn't say that it was 100% authentic, but the food is top quality and I would't hesitate to recommend it.

Thank you again C - life doesn't get much better than good food and even better company!

  10. I went to Sake no Hana a couple of years ago and was wowed by the interior (and strawberry cocktail...ahem). I know what you mean about the food not seeming authentically Japanese though - and totally sympathise, my hackles always rise when I see Malaysian food on a menu in Britain and find that only a shadow of the flavours or presentation comes through. What a beautifully presented dessert though! It must have been a lovely place to eat with girlfriends. I always find that dining pales in comparison to the company on birthdays anyway :) xx
