Of course, that means someone has to cook... and this time, it was J's turn, and he wowed us with a delectable spread of delicious Chinese dishes. C was on cleaning and setting-the-table duty, both of which were done as beautifully as usual -
We were spoilt with perfectly roast duck, a chicken dish with ginger and dried fruit that was probably my favourite (so so so good), steamed sea bream flavoured with rainbow flavours, spicy cabbage, char siu buns and mapo tofu, all served with fluffy rice.
When we're young, we take it for granted that we'll be cooked for - whether by parents, or by our school caterers, or any other grown ups around. So I think it's only when you're out of school and needing to fend for yourself, that you truly appreciate how wonderful it is to be fed without you doing any of the work.
So it's a real treat to be given great meals by our friends (I'm lucky that all my close friends love food and can also cook very well! or maybe that's how I choose them...) like this one. Thank you J, you have serious skills!
Delicious food!!!!

I love Chinese food, this all looks really delicious! I could do with a friend with cooking skills as good as this!
ReplyDeletei love your posts of food with friends. reminds me of ina garten's cooking show when she always cooks for friends who in turn takes care of the table spread and flowers. we live so far from our close friends and i miss having these types of gatherings. my husband is more of the eager one to make friends where we are now but i get so hesitant sometimes. but posts like this make me inch toward the thought a bit more :) have a good week ahead!

What you said is literally so true...I am still taking for granted living with my parents and being fed dinners most of the time and I can't imagine how exhausting it will be to cook for myself when I move out haha. So I can picture how grateful I'll be to be served! And do I even need to say it...the photos are beautiful and the food looks too good to be true.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your closing statement. I miss eating my mom's cooking so much. When food is cooked right, you can literally taste the love. Cooking for other people is such a personal experience.
