paris :: la seine, st. germain, jardin des tuileries

04 June 2015

Every time I visit Paris, I'm reminded that it's a cliché for a reason. Although it's not a place I could see myself living in, it's impossible not to be swept away by its charm.

The first stop of our recent trip to France was 36 hours in Paris, and we somehow managed to fit in spending time with family, roaming the streets, a spot of shopping and good food. We were very lucky with the weather and it was pretty sunny with some cloudy spells, which always makes any city shine that much brighter!

The first evening, we had dinner with one of my sisters-in-law (I have four!) and a couple of her friends to celebrate her birthday - we ate at Roca, which is a very stylish and friendly place and the food was pretty good, but not the best. It tries too hard to be fancy pants with no real reason, which is frustrating, but it's a lovely restaurant nonetheless.

We spent the next morning with E's grandparents, followed by a delectable lunch at a place I'll share in its own post (because it definitely deserves it), a long walk across the Seine, through St. Germain (where of course, we had to stop off at Pierre Hermé, and may have made a sneaky cande purchase at Diptyque - they're cheaper in France, ok?), around Jardin des Tuileries and the Louvre, and finally to Châtelet, where we had coffee with another sister-in-law and her family. It was actually quite the trek!

Thankfully, we had a relaxing evening in, with E cooking dinner for us and his cousin's family who we were staying with - the kids are 4 and 5 years old, and utterly delightful. I always love seeing them, and they teach me French by showing me their picture books. Win win.

We left early the following morning to head down South - but more on that soon.

So there we have it, my little Paris diary! If you want to see more of my previous trips to Paris, go right ahead. My favourite area of the city is Montmatre, where you can see a fantastic view from the Sacre Coeur

"Paris is always a good idea". Has Audrey Hepburn ever been wrong about anything?
