e cooks: like a michelin starred chef

04 February 2014

Quite the modest title, right? I just didn't know how else to put it!

For his birthday celebrations, E cooked the most epic meal that had him slaving away in the kitchen, on and off for days.

He really wanted to cook something elaborate that he doesn't often have time for, and to treat our friends to something special.

Drumroll, please...

Ravioli of lobster, langoustine and salmon with a lemongrass and chervil velouté

Gratin Dauphinois

Beef Wellington with parma ham, foie gras and mushroom paste

Let's just say that the meal had a wow factor. I didn't help with the cooking at all, just the odd bit of washing up and a bit of potato slicing with the mandolin - he also did a side of caramelised carrots with garlic and tarragon which were delicious. We were all thoroughly impressed, and thoroughly stuffed!

He did let us take over for dessert, requesting his two favourite - the best tiramisu ever made by C, and the secret recipe brownies that I was given from his childhood friend's family.

We had a wonderful evening - hilarious conversations, Telestrations fun and lots and lots of laughter.

  1. When are u gonna host E to share the recipes?:) I'm interested in everything, but in Beef Wellington particularly and u didn't exaggerate with the title, on the contrary. In my country the old ladies say for the young unmarried girls that they can get married when they master some special cooking skills (making some particular food). So if E is a girl and not married in my opinion he would go directly to the wedding altar. Like this, I can only say u are very lucky woman. Looks great! xx

    1. i have asked him if he wants to write about his own cooking on here - but for now, he prefers to stay in the kitchen ;) that is such a funny tradition, and i'm sure has applied in different countries in the past - i laughed reading your comment about E being good wife material!! xx

  6. Ummmm is he a real person I don't understand how this can be possible. It looks sooooo amazinggggg like a professional restaurant in your house!! I agree with To The River, he should share his recipes (or you can share them for him haha). The crust on that Beef Wellington OMGGG. I'm going to send Ilhan over there so he can learn a thing or two haha.

    1. haha he generally uses proper recipes (these were mainly from gordon ramsay) with his own tweaks and additions. it's his second passion in life i think (first being me… no i'm kidding, i mean his career) which is lucky for me! x
