homeslice

14 July 2015

This will be short, but oh so sweet. Well, savoury, but in the best way possible.

I meant to get more photos of the place, the menu, etc. but I was too hungry for that to happen. Instead, you get a series of unadulterated pizza pics. You're welcome.

Homeslice is a hugely hyped-up place, and with good reason - the typical 1.5-2 hours queue for a weekday dinner speaks for itself. The good thing about Homeslice is that you don't actually have to stand there whilst you wait, which is a big bonus in my opinion. You can turn up, give them your number, and they'll call you when a table frees up. If you're ravenous and can't wait a minute longer, you can take away pizza by the slice, which is also a good option.

The first time I went there a few months ago, I failed to get any decent photos (the banes of being a food blogger), but luckily I headed there again not too long afterwards, and the 4 of us shared 2 huge 20 inch pizzas.

The concept is very simple - each pizza is 20 inches, at 20 pounds, and they even measure how much wine you drank with a ruler from a giant bottle, just to make things even easier. It's the toppings that make it a party at Homeslice. They present the choices on a blackboard, and most are not what you'd see at your local pizzeria - I mean, have you ever seen a goat shoulder, sumac yogurt and savoy cabbage pizza before?

We went half and half with each pizza, and our picks were:
Salami, rocket and parmesan
Caramelised onions, kalamata olives and anchovy
Pulled BBQ brisket with pickles
Goat shoulder, savoy cabbage and sumac yogurt

I think that our unanimous favourites were the brisket and goat shoulder - works so incredibly well on pizza, who knew?! The bases are different to the pillowy sourdough ones at places like Franco Manca or Pizza Pilgrims, but just as good and very flavourful.

We all give it a big thumbs up, and I think you will too, if you haven't been already! I think good pizza is one of life's greatest pleasures, and clearly Homeslice agrees.
