When I was in my teens, my family and I used to frequent Royal China in Putney for dim sum every so often. It was usually for Sunday lunches, which is how I came to associate it with that relaxed, Sunday vibe with friends and family.
Not to be mistaken with the Putney Royal China as they are completely unrelated, our favourite for no fuss, affordable and delicious dim sum is the Royal China in Bayswater. I have reviewed it before, but I couldn't not talk about it again - if only to persuade you to go if you haven't been before!
Be prepared to queue if you go on the weekend (you grab a ticket when you arrive, and you can go for a walk and come back when it's closer to your time), but do go hungry - you can have a proper feast for a very reasonable price.
Anyway, I've harped on about this place before so let's move on. To the food photos, obviously.
As it was quite a lovely day, we went for a walk in Kensington Gardens next door, where we met a very friendly squirrel who apparently wanted to play with us.
Pest or not, he was a cutie!
Now let's return to talking about dim sum - I'd love to try out some other, possibly hidden gems for it in London. We love Yauatcha (their lunch menu is a bargain) for the occasional treat, and Hakkasan is good too but I haven't been in a while. I've also tried a couple in China Town that were decent too, but again it's been a while.
Let me in on your dim sum secret? Where's your favourite? And if you don't eat out in London or don't like dim sum, what's your favourite Sunday lunch?
I actually went for dim sum at the Royal China in Bayswater last Sunday and the food was delicious! I've been to the one in Canary Wharf as well (for dinner, not for dim sum) and that was good also. :)
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, it's always a mistake visiting your wonderful blog before lunch - I'm super hungry now hehe! xx
ReplyDeleteUgh I'm so so so craving for dimsum now!
ReplyDeleteMe and my family are going to Chinatown this
weekend, so I might eat it afterall :P Xx
Oh I love dim sum! I wish I could find it in Lithuania
ReplyDeleteHakkasan and Golden Dragon are two of my favourites. I've been to Princess Garden in Mayfair which was incredible for dim sum!
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious as always :] I've actually never had dim sum...Ilhan doesn't like Chinese food very much so we never venture to Chinese restaurants, but I hope we can change that soon hehe. When we started dating he didn't like any Asian food at all...and I've gotten him to like Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese thus far haha.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, you probably get asked all the time but what camera do you use?

Thanks! I use a Canon EOS M x
DeleteOh I shouldn't have seen your photos before eating.... :x
ReplyDeleteHaha little squirrel came to say hello!
Bayswater Royal China is where I used to spend my Saturday lunchtimes having dim sum as a child! So much nostalgia (and lust) gazing at your pictures of turnip paste, lo mai cai, prawn dumplings etc...so delicious! And that squirrel's a cutie. I saw literally thirty out in force in Regent's Park today - they must be happy that it's so warm still! xx
ReplyDeleteI damn love dim sum and in the last few months I've been eating so much dim sum but I can't stop myself! I love dim sum and could eat some everyday! I think you deserved a lot more than 3 pieces of guo tie! At least 4 I say! And that squirrel is so damn adorable!
ReplyDeleteShamefully Ping Pong is the only place I've been for Dim Sum so far in London - I know I need to change this! These look delicious!
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to check the one out in Bayswater - no excuse for being lazy.
Delicious-looking photos as per usual! x
Would it be crazy to say that I think of you as my dim sum/ramen spirit sister? haha. I definitely need to get out my comfort zone and find some new dim sum places to check out in D.C. While I enjoyed going to Ping Pong, it's a bit to corporate for me. Growing up I was used to going to small, mom and pop dim sum places which offered more cultural charm. Definitely something I'm on the lookout for for my next dim sum experience :)
ReplyDeleteOhhh I love dim sum, wish there was somewhere closer to me that did it good rather than heading into London xx
