Today we are heading to the leafier outskirts of the city to visit someone special, and I knew I wanted to bake something. Knowing that she is partial to lemon tarts and having baked her one already a while ago, I thought I would try out its lemony cousin.
I used Jamie Oliver's recipe and pretty much followed it to a T without any creative flairs of my own, but from the looks of it I would say it was a success...
...but is there anything more agonising than baking a whole cake as a gift, and not being able to cut into it and check that the inside is as lovely as you hope it is? I've just got everything crossed that a) my clumsy self will not squish or drop it into an early grave on the journey there, and b) that the taste is the citrus-y deliciousness of my dreams.
I've got faith in you, cake.

It looks beautiful!! And I TOTALLY know what you mean about not being able to try it before hand! So nerve racking! That's why I usually stick with cookies haha.
ReplyDeleteexactly - i tend to make cupcakes or cookies or something i can taste test first (and there are always some misshapen ones that i can avoid taking!) - luckily it tasted pretty good and everyone seemed to enjoy it :) it's a very good recipe x
ReplyDeleteYummy! Perfect for a rainy weekend <3

and now with the storm coming, it might be an excuse to bake another... x
DeleteI don't know how I would resist not to take a photo of that cute looking poppy seeds middle. Eatable glue, does it exist? ;-) p.s. I may try this after I finish with my stock of pumpkin puree:)
ReplyDeleteit was hard!! the inside was quite pretty i have to say :) x
DeleteHaha, I have faith in your cake! :)
ReplyDeleteI love lemon drizzle cake, and this looks delish.
Hmm maybe...
i was relieved that it was easy to make - it's such a popular one i didn't want to ruin it for anyone! x
DeleteLemon drizzle is such a staple, I can't believe you haven't tried it before. It looks delicious! I have a really obscure recipe for it I got out of an ASDA magazine years ago, and I wouldn't be without it.

that sounds intriguing! it's funny how you can find real recipe gems in the most unexpected places x
Deleteomg that looks so good. i wish i was good at baking! i just don't have the talent for it, but for some reason i continue to try and my husband continues to get tummy aches (from eating them). :) i like your new blog post layout and design!
